Double Cleansing

Want to know a secret? Double cleansing cleared a majority of my skin issues. Having two different cleansers may seem excessive, but double cleansing will change your skincare game.

What is double cleansing?

When I say double cleansing, I don't mean going in with your favorite cleanser twice. Double cleansing is a two-step facial cleansing process involving an oil-based cleanser followed by a water-based one.

What does double cleansing do?

The first cleanse ensures the effective breakdown of SPF, makeup, and excess dirt. And the second cleanse ensures that the yummy ingredients of the water-based cleanser penetrate deeper. Thus, causing the active ingredients to be more effective.

Why is double cleansing crucial for acne-prone skin?

Double cleansing aids acne-prone skin by removing excess oil, dirt, and debris from the skin's surface, which can clog pores and contribute to the formation of acne. Though double cleansing will not get rid of acne, it will prevent it.

Penelope’s Favorite Oil Cleansers

Oil cleansers come in both oil and balm forms. It all boils down to preference and texture. Some of my favorites that are clean and gentle are:

  1. Caudalie Vinoclean Makeup Removing Cleansing Oil

  2. Dermalogica Precleanse Cleansing Oil

  3. Inky List Oat Cleasning balm.

If you are going to make your own oil cleanser please ensure to use ones that are non-comedogenic and approved for the application of the face. A couple of years ago, I used coconut oil as my cleanser, and let's just say my skin was not happy about it.

Pro Tip: After cleansing for a minute with your oil cleanser take advantage of how the oil glides on your face. Take this time to give yourself a facial massage either with clean hands or a gua sha tool. Your face will thank me later.

No matter what kind of skin you have, this method of cleansing will change the appearance and texture of your skin. I hope you try this method of cleansing if you don’t already.

With Love,

Penelope
