7 Tips to Help with Mental Health
Can I be honest? Lately I’ve been struggling with mental health. After self-reflecting I realized I stopped taking care of myself and stopped feeding my mind and soul. You might be in that same space and I want to let you know that you are not alone.
When my mental health was at its worst, I did not want to read or hear another encouraging message. I just wanted immediate relief.
That may be you, and I want you to know that this is a safe space. For those wanting a more in depth testimony and solution based system on how I overcame depression and anxiety I will share it with you in my next post.
For now I want to share with you 7 practical tips that will help alleviate symptoms. Upon self reflection I realized I have neglected these small things that make such a difference in my well being.
Here are 7 things to help:
Supplements
This month I have been off my supplement game. It is crazy how these tiny encapsulated pills make a huge difference in my mood and well being. Obviously, do your research on what works for you but here are the ones that have made a huge difference in my body.
Going on a Nature Walk
Let’s be honest. Going for a walk around the block does not compare to being outdoors. There is just something so magical about being in nature. It is restorative and healing. Being disconnected from the outside world really allows me to zen out and breathe. I know it may be a struggle to get out of bed right now but trust me, when you set your feet outdoors there is an atmosphere that shifts within you.
Juicing
When it comes to depression and anxiety, juicing is pivotal in providing relief. Why? Because juicing provides the body with additional nutrients such as vitamin C, folate, and magnesium. This ultimately helps the body produce neurotransmitters like serotonin and dopamine. As a result, it improves your mood and wellness.
If you are struggling with depression or anxiety, it's important to seek professional help. However, juicing can be a complementary approach to support your overall mental and physical health.

Aromatherapy
Did you know that essential oils enhance physical and psychological well-being? Though it is not a standalone treatment to depression and anxiety, the oils derived from plants can support relaxation, stress reduction, mood enhancement, sleep improvement, emotional balance, and mindfulness.
My favorite place to shop for essential oils is Saje Natural Wellness. I have been using Saje Natural Wellness blends and diffusers for years and it is worth the hype. If you are a skeptic go to your local wellness store and breathe in different blends. Trust me, you will find that your body will respond to certain scents. For me, I know a blend is the one for me when my chest and heart open up and become less tight.
I love to stick to citrus based scents for the morning and sleep enhancing one's for the evening to create a positive and healthy atmosphere. When I need to calm my central nervous system down I love to rely on Saje’s Pocket Farmacy to help.
Please note: Make sure to use natural and organic blends. Though they may be more expensive, the cheaper essential oils on the market are toxic and are extremely harmful.
Meditation
In college I was paired with the best Christian therapist. He was the first person to introduce to me scripture based meditation. Until this day, I can not thank this man of God enough for saving my life. Whenever anxiety gets the best of me or I feel panic overcoming me I resort to this short but sweet guided meditation. I encourage you to breathe deeply and repeat the following words until peace overcomes you.
Say:
Peace be still.
Peace be still.
Peace be still.
Peace be.
Peace be .
Peace be.
Peace.
Peace.
Peace.
Stretching
Did you know that unresolved trauma can be stored in the body? Some western practitioners may not agree, but it is found that emotions such as unforgiveness, anxiety, stubbornness, fear, etc. can all be stored in the body. There are so many charts that showcase areas of pain and its probable causes. If you are feeling pain in a certain area of your body, check out the chart. You may surprised how accurate they are.
For me stretching has helped stabilized my mood and reduced stress. In some cases when I do hip openers, they release unresolved emotions that I have been carrying.
Taking a Social Media Break
Let’s be honest, if we are not careful social media can trigger our mental health. Though it is a powerful tool, for many it can be an isolating and depressing platform. We have to be cautious of the content we consume and how certain creators make us feel.
If they make you question, why am I so ugly? Why don’t I have a body like him/her? Why am I a loser? Whatever that trigger is for you immediately unfollow that person or take a social media break.
Social media is not real, it is a warped reality. Remember, content creators only show you small fragments of their lives. You have no idea what their life is really like. As a content creator myself, it is not all that it is cracked up to be.
Even for me when I am on social media for too long I begin to compare myself to others that are killing it in my industry.
If you are in this headspace I highly suggest getting off social media for a while. At first it will feel lonely and weird, but trust me after a couple of days the clarity and healing you will receive is far greater than moments of boredom. A few years ago I went on a cleanse for 2 months and it restored my mind and soul.
I pray that these tips bring you relief in your healing journey. May you experience supernatural peace and Joy.
With Love and Light,
Penelope
